The Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway offers 40 miles of backcountry driving that bisect the Pioneer Mountains between Montana Highway 43 and Highway 278.

Snowmobiling is a popular sport in the Big Hole. The local snowmobile club in conjunction with the State of Montana grooms several miles of trails in mid winter. Downhill skiers can enjoy Maverick Mountain or the miles and miles of groomed cross-country trails near the cabins.
